Integration
We integrate sustainability considerations into our investment decisions and decision-making processes, including how we allocate capital and choose investments, to how we manage them over time.
Our integration activities include:
-
integrating sustainability considerations into the choice of Reference Portfolio indices
-
assessing ESG risks and opportunities before making new active investments
-
seeking to include ESG or sustainability requirements in external manager agreements
- annually assessing external managers' ESG approach and capability
-
seeking impact investments that deliver measurable social or environmental benefits, alongside the Fund’s expected risk-adjusted returns.
The Sustainable Investment Team works with our investment teams to support due diligence, investment assessments, external manager reviews and ongoing company monitoring.
We also benchmark our effectiveness in implementing the PRI through an annual PRI assessment. We report publicly on sustainable investment performance measures, including climate-related measures.
Impact investment
We seek to make impact investments that provide measurable positive social or
environmental outcomes in addition to the Fund's expected risk-adjusted returns.
We use an Impact Investment Framework to qualify, analyse, measure and manage our impact investments. This framework is based on global good practices for asset owners such as the Impact Management Project's (IMP) Five Dimensions of Impact, in line with guidelines developed by the Impact Investment Network Aotearoa.
