We are looking for a Cloud Engineer with experience in working in a Microsoft Azure or AWS cloud environment to join our team.  In this role you will monitor the billing and licensing for the cloud services and manage Role Based Access Controls for cloud subscriptions.  Working closely with the technology partner, this role will manage and maintain the development environment and perform security updates and patching.

The core responsibilities include :

  • Act as the key point of contact for IaaS, PaaS and SaaS services in Microsoft Azure.
  • Provision, manage, monitor and decommission servers and services in Microsoft Azure.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of cloud services and security strategies..
  • Ensure best practice is followed around security and identity management.
  • Work closely with the Applications Development team and our chosen technology partners to deliver projects and new solutions.

Experience in the following skills would be essential to this role :

  • Strong scripting skillset in Powershell or JSON.
  • Understanding of cloud security best practice.
  • Experience with templates and other configurable items to enable automation.
  • Familiarity with deployment techniques (and tools) in a distributed environment.
  • Basic monitoring techniques in a dynamic environment.

The opportunity?

The Portfolio Design team, along with its counterparts, Strategic Tilting and Economics, forms the Guardians’ Asset Allocation function, which sits within the broader Investments business unit. The Portfolio Design team is primarily responsible for the Fund’s Reference Portfolio, and for developing the Guardians’ portfolio construction approach, expressed through risk budgets and the risk allocation process (RAP).

As Analyst, Portfolio Design, your core responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the team in the analysis of our Reference Portfolio reviews, maintaining both equilibrium and current risk and return assumptions, production of investment hurdles and proxies
  • Assisting in maintaining and enhancing the Guardians’ approach to risk budgeting and the risk allocation process\
  • Contributing to the Guardians’ wider investment activities by assisting in the development of strategies and participating in investment workshops and investment opportunities
  • Assisting with the regular Portfolio and Investment Environment reviews
  • Demonstrating appropriate knowledge and use of all Guardians’ systems and processes
  • Reading, understanding and complying with all policies and procedures, including those relating to risk management and compliance practices
  • Championing the Guardians’ vision, values and constructive culture at all times

Your profile:

This opportunity requires an analyst with experience conducting in-depth research across multiple asset classes, within an asset owner or investment manager. A thorough understanding of investment concepts is required, as is the ability to develop effective relationships and to work collaboratively with peers and the wider business. You will display sound commercial judgement and the perspective to make informed recommendations in line with the Guardians' mandate.

They are looking to employ an Applications Administrator who will assume responsibility for:

  • Level 1 and 2 support, maintenance and administration of the Guardians’ enterprise applications: Sharepoint, CRM, document management system and the service desk application.
  • Level 1 support of SuperMART (in-house financial system) and file management.
  • Document processes and procedures for the ongoing management of the Guardians’ enterprise applications and service desk.
  • Work with external vendors and service providers as needed.

Person requirements:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience administering Microsoft Sharepoint. Experience designing, implementing and maintaining business process workflows (Sharepoint, etc.)
  • Experience working with service desk applications, document management systems, CRM systems and Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Understanding of Active Directory Users and Computers.
  • Basic understanding of Microsoft Windows server environments including common protocols/standards i.e. DNS, TCP/IP, HTTP, SMTP, .Net.
  • Knowledge of web development languages preferred i.e. HTML, Java
  • Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills.

The opportunity

The External Investments and Partnerships team forms part of the Guardians' broader Investments business unit and is responsible for effective management of a portfolio of investments with external investment managers, as well as finding innovative ways to access attractive investment opportunities.

Current external mandates include systematic factor-based equities, distressed credit, merger arbitrage, infrastructure, renewable energy, catastrophe reinsurance, NZ expansion capital, NZ and emerging markets active equities, life settlements, global macro, shale energy, and several others.

As the Analyst, External Investments & Partnerships, you will contribute to the analysis and ongoing assessment of the risk/return characteristics of existing and prospective investments across a wide range of asset classes. You will also contribute to the selection of external investment managers and ongoing management of these relationships. The EIP team is also responsible for managing the Guardians’ network of peer relationships, and analysts can expect to work with the Head of EIP in contributing to the development and maintenance of strategies in this space.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Analysing the relative attractiveness of a diverse range of asset classes and investment strategies.
  • Maintaining an up-to-date view of market events and pricing in specific asset classes.
  • Building and maintaining key investment analysis frameworks, models and tools.
  • Supporting the appraisal and selection of 'best in class' managers.
  • Monitoring the Fund's portfolio of external mandates.

Your background

The ideal candidate will bring circa 2-6 years' experience of investment analysis and/or investment strategy gained within asset management.

This position requires critical thinking, intellectual curiosity, creative problem solving, and an abundance of drive and initiative! You will be detail-oriented while also able to apply a macro perspective to investment analysis.

This is a unique opportunity for exposure to a fascinating array of asset classes and to some of the world's most renowned investment managers. The investments team is responsible for delivering relative value above a passive-only reference portfolio, and has contributed $7.5bn in value-add above this benchmark since inception. The Senior Advisor, Infrastructure is a new role within this team that will be responsible for creating an investment strategy in this asset class and serve as a subject matter expert for the Guardians. Starting from a largely blank canvas, this position will work to provide thought leadership, market insight, relationships and execution excellence for infrastructure investment opportunities across the capital structure, including direct and externally managed investments.

Positioned within the direct investments team, this role has a high degree of autonomy but will work across the wider investments team and regularly interface with investment and risk committees, as well as the Board. For this reason, they must enter as a respected individual in the field, capable of forming deep market relationships at both an industry and a government level, and of speaking for the Guardians on infrastructure markets and trends globally.

Success in this role commands deep experience in infrastructure investment, spanning origination through to execution and ongoing management. This could come from time in financial services, or through corporate and business development experience in infrastructure operating companies.

About the role

Reporting to the Head of Legal, and working as part of a collegial, high performing in-house legal team, you will help to ensure that all secretariat compliance obligations are met, and support the in-house legal function in broader areas.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing secretariat support duties to the Guardians’ subsidiaries and Fund Investment Vehicles
  • Assisting the Company Secretary with Board Secretariat duties for the Guardians’ Board,
  • Acting as the central point for the coordination and updating of Guardian’s policies including reporting changes to the Board,
  • Supporting the legal team and wider Guardians’ activities in other areas when required including handling insurance requirements, powers of attorney, AML verifications and championing improvements to systems and processes.

The ideal candidate we seek will possess the following:

  • Prior public or private sector experience supporting a company secretariat function
  • A collegial, constructive and professional manner and willingness to lend a hand
  • An organised, efficient working style with high attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines
  • The ability to foster strong internal and external relationships
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
